#8Sunday #SundaySnips Jacob Lowell

http://www.wewriwa.com/

Welcome to Eight Sunday, the blog hop where writers post eight sentences of their work.
I finished the first round edits for All Things Returned, the third part of the Anton and Lenora series, this week. Last week, I posted the introduction to Jacob Lowell, a man who causes Lenora a lot of trouble. Here's the next part--

“Well, well,” Jacob said once he had steered me away from Anton, “the little kitten has fallen on her feet after all.”
“I have no idea of your meaning, sir.” This was not true. It was clear Jacob meant to insult me and to remind me of the trouble Anton and I had left behind in Rio port when we’d been forced to stop there for repairs. I had, at the time, been unhappily promised to a man named George Settle, who had beaten his first wife and would no doubt have treated me with equal contempt. Mr. Settle had, with Lowell’s help, pursued us to Brazil.
We had fled that place, leaving Mr. Settle behind us, dead in a pool of his own blood. His death had been by my hand, and this fact vexed me.

All Things Returned, part 3 of Anton and Lenora, comes out next April. For more on the series, please visit my Anton and Lenora page.

  1. Nice summary of their relationship. (But the next time she kills someone she needs to make sure they stay dead...)

    1. Thanks PT. Oh, he's really dead. But the witnesses aren't.

  2. I love her voice. Maybe Lowell should step back, the lady isn't afraid of protecting herself!

  3. Uh oh. She sounds confused. Maybe next time she'll use whatever weapon she used the first time, harder! Nice eight Ute!

    1. Thanks Anne. She didn't mean to kill him, exactly. But, stuff happens :)

  4. I like the understatement that he'd been dead by her hand, which vexed her. An interesting story, complex but draws a reader in. Great snippet!

  7. She was vexed at having killed someone. Fascinating! I assume it was self-defence, given that description of Mr. Settle's character.

  8. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, she couldn't possibly stay with a man who was going to beat her.

    1. It was worse than that. He had to go--and she actually did kill him in self-defense.
